Kerr's Landing

Honey Harbor, Canada. Helen and Bill Kerr's boat landing in Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, near Honey Harbor. Watercolor, 8 x 14 inches.

This was painted during a visit to Uncle Bill's and Aunt Helen's island cottage in Georgian Bay, Lake Huron. This painting is a special favorite of my husband, Mark, for the special memories associated with that trip.

I am so happy that you have a Honey Harbor painting. Most Georgian Bay paintings are somewhere in Toronto. . . . we were guests there, though you and Mark stayed on your rental sailboat. Your painting is one of the better ones. It composes quite well. It has great movement and casual detail without being labored over. . . . The famous Group of Seven frequented those rocky islands as guests of Dr. Michaelson. You may have been on an island picnic with us there when Uncle Bill met a wealthy Torontoan sowing pine tree seeds. He bought islands, demolished cottages, and gave the islands as parkland to Ontario.
