Cape Hatteras Light in Wind

Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. View of Cape Hatteras Light. Watercolor, 10 x 14 inches, 4/29/1984.

Like the previous view of Cape Hatteras Light (Cape Hatteras Light in Sun), this view was painted before the structure was moved. I prefer the other painting of the base of the light, but Mom and Dad prefer this one. This painting is on much coarser texture paper. This painting won an award at the Minnesota State Fair.

Cotswold Cottages

Great Tew, England. Thatched cottages in the Cotswolds. Watercolor, 13.75 x 9.75 inches, 1983.

This watercolor and ink pen technique is one of my favorites.

I painted the Cotswolds near the end of our tour of England, Scotland and England again. . . . On painting the thatched cottages at Great Tew my first thoughts were that no one would believe the TV antennas, and that I was joking. So I measured them exactly to scale with the cottages on the drawing. To me the TV antennas meant that the people living in those thatched cottages are just like us, almost. I may have exaggerated the tunnel effect of the trees over the distant roadway, just a little bit. "artistic license", you know.
